DRUID WISDOM

“Sow a thought, reap a word;
Sow a word, reap an action;
Sow an action, reap a habit;
Sow a habit, reap a character;
Sow a character, reap a destiny.”

TURQUOISE TRAIL

It's glorious outside. Driving on Dinosaur Trail let's you see some lovely fringe landscape--the northward bank can be high enough that you can't see past it, and it becomes a linear display of grassy spikes mixed with tiny shrubs mixed with glowing, crumbling earth.
It makes you wonder why you need all that stretch of open land along the Turquoise Trail. The answer for me is what makes our scenic trail so special. It gives you the sense of infinite openness. You sense space expanding infinitely. Meanwhile, tiny fringes like those you see in the city, cut up and fractured by buildings, force you to appreciate infinity in ever smaller things. What we have in the Turquoise Trail is the ability to balance these two extremes within a single landscape.
RV HOUSING

Trevor Burrowes Maybe some of these discussions could wait? In the unlikely event that high rise apartment in EPA would ever be feasible (for any demographic), it wouldn't be feasible any time soon. Apparently, the current group focus is about moving the needle in the direction of affordability for the lowest income group citywide. If so, setting a very tiny, reversible example might be helpful? There was talk about locating some RV's in a church yard? Perhaps obviating need to buy land? What if this limited project, requiring no new, permanent construction, could be done so well that the community would love it and help to support more?

VICO  Truth must be constructed.

The principle of Verum factum[edit]

Vico is best known for his verum factum principle, first formulated in 1710 as part of his De antiquissima Italorum sapientia, ex linguae latinae originibus eruenda (1710) ("On the most ancient wisdom of the Italians, unearthed from the origins of the Latin language").[9] The principle states that truth is verified through creation or invention and not, as per Descartes, through observation: “The criterion and rule of the true is to have made it. Accordingly, our clear and distinct idea of the mind cannot be a criterion of the mind itself, still less of other truths. For while the mind perceives itself, it does not make itself.” This criterion for truth would later shape the history of civilization in Vico’s opus, the Scienza Nuova (The New Science, 1725), because he would argue that civil life – like mathematics – is wholly constructed.

DEVELOPMENT
“(e) Adding technology isn’t really a solution to the debt problem, because it tends to make the affordability problem worse. The problem is that while adding technology seems to lead to more employment for a few elite workers, it tends to displace lower-wage workers at the same time. The spending of lower-wage workers is really needed if adequate demand for commodities is to be maintained. Additionally, the ownership of the technology-related capital goods tends to be concentrated among the elite; this further shifts wealth from the non-elite to the elite.”
I find this most central. Development is geared to displacing the lower income and making them have to travel longer distance in new, far off places. (The supply of housing in these far-off places drives out inefficient but low-impact agriculture. Then it is always misunderstood how much energy supply goes into equipping and maintaining such places.) On the contrary, housing geared to the lowest income exclusively, close to work, obviates these problems, but is forbidden by the culture and most certainly by political leaders. Development is the decisive problem.

ZONING?

“Be aware of the consequences. Try to take into account the costs of what you’re doing. The true city, where experimentation goes on, where you have face-to-face contact, where you have social capital, cannot be completely planned, so you have to be modest. You can’t make people use something in exactly the way that you wanted it.”
