From the look of Doris Gross's photos, there are a few surprising holdouts. But I think that dependence on authorities to valorize them is an anachronism. I would think that the time has come for the human race to be self governing. It should be our public duty as people to reach out to our heroes and support them. Where are the interviews? What of the oral histories? Where are the public acknowledgements of these great contributions? There are countless college and university students who could be helping. And what are citizen organizations doing? We on FB can make a feeble effort to be thankful, but we can't even identify a property or its owner without a great deal of help from people on the ground. Again, I must thank Doris for being such an example of local support. Wish there were more like her.
