This is about depth and quality of spirit

The quality of light through those windows were part of the spiritual experience of our ancestors who worshipped there.

If we want to find out who they were we need to replicate, or preserve, the quality of light they experienced in their most worshipful moments.

Theirs was not as materialistic, violent or hectic a time as now. Amd these old virtues are useful to learn about through the spacial symbols which accompanied them.

And if these considerations aren't enough, it might be worth remembering that preserving structures as close as possible to the original is what historical tourism thrives on.
