AN OPEN COMMUNICATION TO JAMAICA'S PRIME MINISTER

DEAR PRIME MINISTER ANDREW HOLNESS,

- I'm writing to humbly request  that you move to reverse the government's approval of Dolphin Cove dolphinarium development in Discovery Bay St, Ann Parish, Jamaica.

- The petition form linked herein contains an explanation behind the petition drive and demonstrates public alarm over the grave dangers the proposed and permitted development poses to the island.

RESTORING ST. ANN'S BAY

- I am the founding administrator of the Facebook group called "Restoring St. Ann's Bay"

- St. Ann's Bay, as we all know, is the birthplace of Marcus Garvey, and my family history is linked with him.

- What would Marcus Garvey want for his birth town and parish?

- I'm convinced in my soul he would want the parish governance to be a model for the entire African world.

- Locating a dolphinarium in a marine sanctuary, for reasons the petition link will show, is very contradictory and counterproductive.to good governance.

ALTERNATIVES TO A DOLPHINARIUM

- More marine sanctuaries.

- Marine sanctuaries produce more fish.that migrate from their thriving boundaries.

- As climate and economic crises continue to threaten food supply, we need to ensure thriving national fisheries.

- Marine sanctuaries ringed around the island, with at least one in each parish, would distribute better fisheries around the island.

- Such a vision for coastal governance, led by the "Save Discovery Bay" struggle consistent with (if not endorsive of) it in St. Ann, would be a good global example of Garveyite Nation Building.

JAMAICA'S CHALLENGE

Jamaica has been in the global avant garde before--as with starting the international boycott against Apartheid SA. It needs to step up to the plate again in similar fashion. It requires a very large vision to do that with preserving ocean life. Islands can't say they don't have enough ocean front to make a difference.

it would be a very welcome, and widely appreciated, for your government to take the lead toward meeting that challenge, and reverse its approval for Dolphin Cove in Discovery Bay.

Thank you for your attention,

Sincerely,

Trevor Burrowes
