Erica Anne Hamilton The fishermen are after the toatoba fish's swim bladder. One single bladder sells for US$50,000 in the Chinese "Traditional Medecine" market. That's more than cocaine per ounce.They use illegal gill nets, and the nets do not discriminate.

Erica Anne Hamilton The economy and culture get tangled together with devastating planetary consequences. Something fundamental needs to change. Jamaica has been in the global avant garde before--like with starting the international boycott against Apartheid SA. It needs to step up to the plate again in similar fashion. I'm not sure if it doesn't require a very large vision to do that with ocean life. Islands can't say they don't have enough ocean front to make a difference.
